What is BFP

Under the Republic Act (RA) 6975 Chapter IV the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is referred to as the Fire Bureau, which consist of the officers and uniformed members of the fire service of the Integrated National Police (INP) as constituted under Presidential Decree No. 765.

The uniform personnel of the BFP have Rank Classification. The head of the Fire Bureau is the Chief of the Fire Bureau with the rank of “Director”. He is assisted by a deputy chief with the rank of “chief superintendent”.

Under this law, the PNP (Philippine National Police), BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection) and the BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) had common provisions for uniform personnel, covered by Chapter VII under section 69 to section 82.

Section 54 of the Act states that the Fire Bureau shall be responsible for the prevention and suppression of all destructive fires on buildings, houses and other structures, forest, and transportation vehicles and equipment, ships or vessels docked at piers or wharves or anchored in major seaports, petroleum industry installations, plane crashes and other similar incidents, as well as the enforcement of the Fire Code of the Philippines.
